Midwest Leather Co.

April 2013 issue

Midwest Leather Co. of Garland , Utah , a family-owned and operated business, has provided customers with quality horse-drawn equipment and supplies for over 23 years.

Owner Bill Plank grew up around horses. His father farmed with draft horses in southern Wisconsin , and later opened a harness shop where Bill learned the trade. Bill started Midwest Leather Co. in 1990, and Bill’s children, Mary and Jon, have joined the business.

Midwest leather offers many types of farm and driving harnesses, in both leather and synthetic bioplastic; collars; neck yokes; doubletrees, and driving bits up to 7” in width. They carry horseshoeing stocks, and Jon is available to repair harnesses and saddles.

They also have riding equipment for draft horses, including bridles and Western saddles built on draft horse bars. A 48-page catalog of products is available to be sent out, free of charge, upon request.

“We like helping newcomers to driving,” says Bill. “We’ll help them select the items they need.”

Pioneer Sulky Plow

Midwest Leather Co. is a dealer for Pioneer Equipment, Inc., which produces high-quality Amish horse-drawn equipment including the Pioneer Forecart.

Originally designed to be implemented for farm use, the forecart can also be used for training, exercising horses, pleasure driving, or off-road use. The Pioneer Forecart comes sizes pony up to draft, and may be used with a single or a team.

Midwest Leather also carries harrows, plows, hay mowers and manure spreaders, as well as rubber-tired wagons and wooden-wheeled buckboards made by Pioneer Equipment.

“We can ship all over the U.S. , and even do some exporting,” says Mary. She adds, “Customers are welcome to stop by, but please call first for an appointment.”

For more information, or to request a catalog, call Midwest Leather Co. at 435-257-7880 or email mwleather@emypeople.net.
