Big Wyoming Horse Expo

      The 4th Annual Big Wyoming Horse Expo is set for April 19-21, 2013, at the Wyoming State Fair Indoor Equestrian Center in Douglas , Wyoming .

      The three-day event is targeted at horse owners and lovers, and welcomes all breeds and all disciplines. Admission is free to the public!

      This year’s Big Wyoming Horse Expo is organized by Connie Taylor and Tana Rodeman. Taylor and Rodeman have been helping with the Expo since it began in 2010.

      Taylor, owner of Black Horse Ranch in Douglas , Wyoming , has been around horses most of her life, purchasing her first horse in the 1960s. Rodeman, Taylor ’s daughter, has a few horses of her own on her cattle ranch in Douglas .

      “It’s a statewide effort,” said Rodeman, noting that people from Casper to Wheatland to Gillette pitched in to make the event possible.

     Featured clinicians include: Van Hargis, a nationally-known clinician from Texas , who specializes in ranch horse versatility; and Brigette Benson of Rock Springs , Wyoming , riding instructor and performance horse trainer.

     Other presenters include: Brenda Unrein, DVM,whose main focus is equine lameness and dentistry. Unrein was certified in 2011 by Colorado State University to perform acupuncture on horses; Erin Hageman, who will be giving Hunter/Jumper demonstrations;

Bill and Jacque Hackett, massage therapy; Sherma Cundall, essential oils; Kevin McNiven, driving; state brand inspector Bill Fitzhugh, Brand Inspection 101; and Cindy Reynolds, a 5-time NSPRA world champion in barrel racing, and member of the Senior Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame.

      An expo highlight again this year will be Glenn Ryan, the lead packer for the Forest Service Rocky Mountain Regional Pack String. Ryan will be giving various packing demonstrations.

      Other activities include a stallion alley, breed demonstrations, an 4-H & FFA judging clinic, a private treaty horse sale, trade show, and food booths. Western music will be provided by Trinity Seely Friday night and Kevin McNiven Saturday night.
