2013 Utah Horse Expo

February 2013 issue

The 2013 Utah Horse Expo will be held March 15-17, 2013, at the Salt Lake County Equestrian Park Event Center in South Jordan . The family-friendly event is sponsored by the Utah Horse Council and will feature an assortment of breeds, from ponies to Quarter Horses to draft horses, and everything in between.

The weekend’s highlight is the 5th Annual Utah Horse Trainers Challenge, with a $5,000 cash prize and $7,500 in awards. Each trainer received an untrained horse to work with for 60 days. After those 60 days, the trainers are assessed on how well they trained their horse in skills ranging from basic ground manners to Western performance events such as reining, and ranch and cattle work.

The trainers will compete at the Expo where they will then be evaluated by three judges who will decide the overall winner. Expo spectators will also have a chance to vote on which horse they consider as the “best trained.” Winner of the popular vote from visitors will win a custom saddle.

Other activities include a Breed Showcase & Parade; a Stallion Preview; educational seminars; numerous demonstrations and clinics; and a large trade show.
