Rose

By Angelo Pecora, Seeley Lake, MT

September 2012 issue

A rose is a rose

By any other name?

But

If Rose is a mule, well

It’s a whole different game.

She’s short of ear

Long of leg,

Broad of chest

Somewhat like a keg.

She’s prone to

Stumble, unlike

Her kind.

I’ve often considered her

Legally blind.

But in the pasture

She’s all 20/20,

I can’t approach her

For love nor money.

Oh Rose is, for sure,

Mule thru and thru and

Occasionally

She breaks flat in two, and

After I’m launched

And when I awake,

She’s always standin’

Over me

Keepin’ me safe.

She’s leary of ropes

And

Leary of cattle,

But she is often fair under

Saddle...

That’s to her credit,

Cuz

Mostly her traits would

Ledger a debit.
