Idaho State Draft Horse & Mule 

International Show

 

September 2012 issue  

 

     The 36th Annual Idaho State Draft Horse and Mule International Show will be held September 20–23, 2012, at the Bonner County Fairgrounds in Sandpoint , Idaho . The four-day event will provide entertainment for the whole family.

     Thursday features halter classes for mares, geldings and stallions beginning at 3:00 p.m., and the next three days are filled with driving competitions. Classes include those with Teams, Four-Up, Six-Up and Eight-Up hitches; Four-Abreast; Unicorn; Farm Team Driving; and Gambler’s Choice (a contest of skill and speed through an obstacle course with a team).

     Friday events include log skidding (a contest of skill with a team pulling two logs through an obstacle course) and Gambler’s Choice preliminaries. Saturday events include the crowd-pleasing Pulling Contest for both horses and mules, and the Gambler’s Choice finals.

     Teams in the Pulling competition are divided into two classes: those under 3,501 pounds, and those over. Lightweight teams begin by pulling 2,000 pounds; heavyweight teams with 2,500 pounds; and 750 Pounds are added to the sled after each round.

     There are classes for all age levels of competitors: Pee-Wee, Junior, Senior, Women only and Men only and Special Needs.  

 

     Visitors should also plan to shop the Wagons Ho Art and Gear Show, ride the free trolley rides, and “Meet the Hitches” of huge Percherons, Belgians, Shires, Clydesdales, Draft Mules, and more and watch demonstrations!

     Season passes, single performance, and family tickets are available. Purchase advance tickets at a discount by 5:00 p.m., Sept. 20, 2012. Friday is senior day with two-for-one tickets. Parking is $3.
