Wyoming State Fair Celebrates 100 Years

July 2012 issue

The 100th Annual Wyoming State Fair is set for August 11-18, 2012, in Douglas Wyoming. The Centennial Celebration features a three-day PRCA Rodeo (August 16-18), drill team performances by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, and a parade, along with many other fair activities.

The special feature entertainment during the rodeo will be performances by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Musical Ride. The Ride is performed by a full troop of 32 police officers on their black Thoroughbred/Hanoverian horses and consists of intricate figures and cavalry drills choreographed to music. A highlight is the charge with lances.

The 100th Anniversary Parade will begin rolling through town at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Parade entrants will compete for $11,000 in prize money, with Best in Parade Equestrian and All Other each winning $750.

In addition to fair exhibits, shows, food booths and a carnival, Grandstand events during Fair Week include Monster Trucks, Antique Tractor Pulls, Coolest Pickup Contest, Sheep and Cattle Dog Competitions, Ranch Rodeo, Pig Wrestling, Western Music Bands, Draft Horse Team Driving Competitions and a Longhorn Show.

Wyoming Mustang Days and Wild Horse Adoption will also be held at the Fair – August 13-18.

Two 100th Anniversary sponsorship opportunities are available to those wishing to join the fund-raising efforts. The “100 Year Steer” contribution includes a limited-edition (of 150) belt buckle, admission to the grandstand and special events, a chance to win a saddle, and much more.

Admission to the fair grounds costs $10 for a Season Commemorative Pin. Admission is separate to the PRCA Rodeo and concert.

For more information or to purchase tickets, call the Fair office at 307-358-2398 or visit www.wystatefair.com.
