Trainer Tricia Purcell, of Purcell Performance Horses,
Purcell will start a colt or finish a
performance horse – but her specialty and first love is training reining
horses. She says that the thrill of being able to take a horse to the next level
is one of her most satisfying accomplishments.
Purcell counts among her mentors many
fine competitors in reining competition. She explains that reining has a lot of
horsemanship skills, and she has added to her knowledge through colt starting
clinics to learn more natural horsemanship methods.
Purcell offers colt starting, reining
and barrel racing training. She teaches riding lessons for all ages and
experience, and coaching and showmanship for any level of competition. She
imparts skills that build confidence in both the horse and rider, and helps to
close any gap in communication.
People who have taken lessons and
showmanship from Purcell praise her patience, flexibility and communication
skills as a teacher. Purcell has had several wins at Montana Reining Horse
Association shows, and continues to seek out opportunities to hone her own
riding skills so that she can better teach others and to compete on a higher
