Rocky Mountain Breeders Assn.

2011 Summer Competitions

Submitted by Jan Finn for the RMBA

June 2011 issue

We are hosting the Rocky Mountain Breeders Association (RMBA) Ranch Horse Competition series again this year. The events are open to all riders; however, to be eligible for Year End High Point Awards, the points are awarded to an individual horse / rider duo and the rider must be a current RMBA member.

We do have a new class debuting in the Ranch Horse Competitions this season. A Youth 13 and Under Class has been created. We hope this will encourage more young participants to get involved and also work hand-in-hand with the new 4-H Ranch Horse Program. The Youth Class consists of a modified Novice Rider class with a reining pattern, cow work, and trail obstacles all part of the class, but with concessions made towards youth who may need assistance in mounting due to rider’s size. The Youth Class joins the current class line-up of Two Year Old Horse; Novice Rider; Green Ranch Horse Junior and Senior divisions; and Advanced Ranch Horse Classes with one offering roping, the other offering full fledged reined cowhorse fence work.

The Ranch Horse Competition show dates are June 25, fairgrounds, Wilsall; July 30, Saddle Peak Arena, Bozeman ; August 26, fairgrounds, Deer Lodge; and September 3, fairgrounds, Plains. All locations are in Montana . Note: competition dates May 28, Keyser Creek Arena, Columbus ; and June 4, fairgrounds, Townsend were cancelled due to the EHV-1 threat. They may be rescheduled; call for information.

The second year of the Offspring Incentive Program will be held during the horse sale weekend with the show classes held on Saturday, August 27, 2011 at the fairgrounds in Deer Lodge, Montana . The Offspring Incentive Program classes are available to offspring that is the result of a breeding purchased through the RMBA Stallion Service Auction. The classes offered in 2011 consist of a weanling halter class and a yearling longe line class.

Other fun events are the Ranch Rodeos. The first one is scheduled for June 11th at the fairgrounds in Drummond , Montana . (Please call to confirm this date.) The second one is on the calendar for September 10, also at the fairgrounds in Drummond , Montana . The Ranch Rodeos always draw a good crowd and are entertainment fun for the whole family. For more information on the Ranch Rodeos or to enter, call 406-544-0982.

The 11th Annual Production, Performance, and Ranch Horse Sale is slated for Saturday, August 27, 2011, at the fairgrounds in Deer Lodge, Montana . The sale always offers a great selection of production horses and saddle horses.

The year in RMBA is capped off with the annual membership meeting and the Annual Awards Banquet. The banquet is open to everyone and is scheduled for September 24, 2011, in Helena , Montana . The banquet is a great place to enjoy socializing and recognize the many awards the RMBA offers throughout the year.

Entry forms are available on the RMBA website at www.montanarmba.org or entries may be phoned in at 406-866-3434.
