Brother and Sister act

Wyatt and Fallon Nuttall Win Youth Cutting Championships

July 2010 Issue

Fallon, mother Krista, brother Wyatt and Father Will, just after the brother and sister won first and second place.

Wyatt Nuttall, 17, and his sister Fallon Nuttall, 19, of Roscoe , MT , took Senior Youth Championship and Senior Youth Reserve Championship, respectively, at the NCHA Western National Cutting Championships, April 28–May 9, 2010, in Ogden , UT.

Wyatt scored a 218 riding Attractive Wipeout, a 12-year-old mare sired by CD Olena and out of Attractions First, that is owned by Richard Neustaedler of North Fork , ID. Wyatt rode just before his sister in the 14-competitor finals.

Fallon scored a 216 riding Shortys Royal Blue, a 7-year-old gelding by Bet on Me 498 and out of Miss Shorty Lena, that is owned by her parents, Will and Krista Nuttall.

In 2008, Fallon won the Western Nationals Senior Youth Division on the same horse, and so, according to her mother, Fallon was really rooting for her brother to capture the prize this year. Fallon is now headed off to college, probably in Texas — “where the action is” — and will continue to compete in adult cutting divisions.

Both Fallon and Wyatt have been riding in youth-division cutting competitions since they were six-years-old.

Their father, Will Nuttall, a professional trainer at the Switchback Ranch in Roscoe, as well as a cutting competitor himself, coached his kids to their wins. Mom, Krista, also shows cutting horses in the Novice Horse, Non-Pro division. Both are active in the Montana Cutting Horse Association.

One reason Wyatt was able to ride Attractive Wipeout is that the mare was at the Switchback Ranch to breed to the ranch stallion, Chipotle Cat. She will then have an embryo transfer so that she can continue competing. The mare was originally trained and campaigned by Will Nuttall when the family lived in Idaho .

Two other winners in the Ogden NCHA Championships also hailed from RMR’s distribution area. Brian Anderson, of Idaho Falls , Idaho , on “Pinkys Little Sue,” claimed a Reserve Championship in the $10,000 Novice division. Kay Pugh, of Walla Walla , Washington won the $5,000 Novice Pro division on “Cat With a Hat.”
