Valley Girls Barrel Daze Pays Out $137,000

     The 32nd Annual Valley Girls Barrel Racing Association’s Barrel Daze competition was held April 9–11, 2010, at the fairgrounds in Walla Walla , WA . The VGBRA has been promoting barrel racing in the Walla Walla Valley for 48 years, and this year saw the biggest event ever with 1,230 total entries and a payout of $137,000.

     Friday night started the action with the Farmers Co-Op Saddle Sweepstakes with 66 entries. The Champion was Cassie Pierce of Sandy , OR , who won $795, in addition to the saddle. The Reserve Champion was Amanda Hunt of Ellensburg , WA , who won $682 plus the Les Schwab Tires horse blanket.

     The Futurity was the weekend’s feature event. The Futurity had a total of 85 entries and paid out $36,125, plus awards.

     Kelsie Miller of Riley , OR , won the first round for $2,408; Chandra Eng of Hermiston , OR , won the second round for $2,408; and Kelsie Miller won the average and was awarded the Don Johnson Trailers Sales saddle.

     Futurity payouts on the Stallion Incentive Bonus money totaled $34,380. Winners were: Kelly Conrado of Hudson, CO, who won $1,532 for the first round; Chandra Eng who won $1,532 for the second round; Chandra Eng also won the average for $1,532, plus the VGBRA saddle. Add in $4,025 for the 2D portion, and the Futurity payouts totaled $75,000.

     The Maturity had 40 entries and paid out a total of $10,160, plus an additional $4,720 for the Stallion Incentive portion, for a grand total of $14,880.

     Winners were: Serena Mote, Brush Prairie, WA, won $427 in round one; Vauna Walker of Pinegree , ID , won $778 in round two; Serena Mote won the average, and was awarded the Trails West Trailers saddle.

     A total of 37 little Pee Wee racers paid out $544 over two days. The Open 4D had 673 racers and paid $35,626.
